Over the centuries no metal has fascinated people more than gold. The demand for gold is showing no signs of slowing down, whether as jewellery or as an investment. And not only there: Gold is used in all our smart devices! But behind its shiny facade, the origins of gold are far less noble. Its extraction is highly polluting and extremely dangerous for the miners working in gold mines. Children’s labour is a common problem. On top of that the miners get comparably nothing for their hard work. It’s high time that we do something about that!
The Earthbeat Foundation started the project HEARTBEAT UGANDA with the goal of helping artisanal gold miners to be less dependent on mining and strengthen sustainable business alternatives. Our project Heartbeat Uganda has now been running since 2013. Along with the community, we already achieved some of our goals towards a better life. Training sessions on responsible mining behaviour, the implementation of safety equipment and the installation of water filters have been our latest achievements. And now we are organizing trainings for bee-keepers in our community in Busia, Eastern Uganda.
HONEY FOR A BETTER FUTURE!
One major problem for gold mining communities is usually the lack of alternatives. We were brainstorming possible solutions along with the villagers on our last trip to Uganda in March 2016. The idea of supporting a bee-keeping project was the one that caught all of us. Soon we will start offering bee-keeping training sessions under the supervision of local professionals for about 80 people. We need your help for that, so bee part of the hive and support our crowdfunding campaign „HEARTBEAT HONEY“ here! This project is a great opportunity for the community towards a self-sustaining life.
Thank you for your donations!
